Poco Wisdom Volume I

I got a dog (read: angel) during the pandemic and it has by far been the best decision I’ve made in my life, other than starting graduate school.

She is the same entity of joy and playfulness every day. She thinks every person is her best friend, and she isn’t afraid to show it. Finally, she loves unconditionally.

We humans have a lot to learn from dogs. They show us how emotions (anger, fear, sadness particularly) are expressed in a primal way. For example, when Poco meets a big dog (she’s 13lbs of pure cute), her hair stands up when the dog is near, and once it leaves, she shakes her whole body. She processes the fear right then and there, so she can move on to the next moment without holding on to it.

I’ve been jotting down the lessons she has taught me or modeled for me over the past 9 months. Here’s Volume I. More to come.

Poco Wisdom Volume I

  1. There will be another stick.
  2. Make your own nest.
  3. It’s okay to express your anger in a healthy way.
  4. Shake it off!
  5. Other people are probably projecting when they call you a bad dog. (lol)
  6. You can’t run away from your shit.
  7. Let yourself be entertained by the imaginary.
  8. No matter how badly you want it, you’re not going to catch that shadow.
